SNAP Consolidates Conferences

Latest magazine association to downsize its events.

The Society of National Association Publications has become the latest magazine association to downsize its events.

The group has decided to consolidate a pair of annual events into one, effectively folding its November conference in Chicago into its Association Media and Publishing conference, planned for June 3-4 in Washington, D.C.

According to SNAP president Kathleen Rakestraw, the decision “allows us to further elevate and enhance our Association Media and Publishing conference, focusing our efforts on bringing members the highest caliber conference possible and ensuring we cover content relevant to all types of association media.”

A SNAP spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

As part of the decision, SNAP is launching a series of “targeted” half-day education programs that will “cater o specific career paths, media types and association structures.” The first of these programs is scheduled for March 27 in Chicago.

Last week, the Audit Bureau of Circulations postponed its annual conference in Toronto. Last month, the Magazine Publishers of America canceled its American Magazine Conference, the consumer magazine association's annual, glitzy gathering of high-powered magazine editors and executives. A week later, b-to-b publishing trade association American Business Media downsized its two-day, e-media-focused Digital Velocity event to a half-day series of live Webinars.
