Another magazine association event has bitten the proverbial recession dust.
The Western Publications Association’s annual conference has been cancelled, the association said today.
The two-day conference had been scheduled for April23-24 at the Westin LAX in Los Angeles.
The 58th Annual Maggie Awards banquet, scheduled for April 24 at the Westin, will go on as planned.
It’s the fourth such conference to be canceled or severely truncated this year.
On Monday, the Society of National Association Publications consolidated a pair of annual events into one, effectively folding its November conference in Chicago into its Association Media and Publishing conference, planned for June 3-4 in Washington, D.C.
Last week, the Audit Bureau of Circulations postponed its annual conference in Toronto.
Last month, the Magazine Publishers of America canceled its American Magazine Conference, the consumer magazine association's annual, glitzy gathering of high-powered magazine editors and executives. A week later, b-to-b publishing trade association American Business Media downsized its two-day, e-media-focused Digital Velocity event to a half-day series of live Webinars.
